The potential of the project to advance the field of study in which it is proposed and make an original and significant contribution to knowledge. The following fellowships will be awarded to selected applicants from within the the ACLS Fellowship program: Awardees in the competition will be announced in the spring.

Up to 65 Young Scholars are selected for this program each year. ACLS Fellowships are intended as salary replacement to help scholars devote six to twelve continuous months to full-time research and writing. Applicants should specify why an extended period of on-site research is critical for successful completion of the proposed doctoral dissertation.

An established scholar who can demonstrate the equivalent of a PhD in publications and professional experience may also qualify. The award may be used for tuition and fees, room and board, books, local transportation, health insurance and international airfare.

It fosters innovative research, nurtures new generations of social scientists, deepens how inquiry is practiced within and across disciplines and mobilizes necessary knowledge on important public issues.
